Five men were sentenced for conspiracy to commit burglary today [Thursday, 22 January 2015] at Blackfriars Crown Court. The men received total of over 25 years imprisonment for the smash and grab raid at the Louis Vuitton store in Knightsbridge.
Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, Baljit Ubhey said:
“In the early hours of Thursday 26th June 2014 these five men raided the Louis Vuitton store in Sloane Street, Knightsbridge.
“The men used a moped to crash through the glass front of the store and made off with over £70,000 worth of handbags.
“The men were caught on camera by a member of the public using their camera phone at the scene, and who provided their footage to police, who in turn quickly identified one of the gang. The increasing use of smartphones by members of the public should serve as a warning to criminals that their crimes are being observed and recorded all the more often – and that this evidence can lead directly to their conviction as happened here.
“Smash and grab raids are frightening and dangerous for those who both experience and witness them and at the CPS we are committed to working with our policing partners to tackle this type of serious organised crime and bring the criminals to justice.”
Sentence details:
Kavosh Jalali, 24 – 4 years imprisonment
Alan Kelly, 20 – 3 years 6 months detention
Daryl Salisbury, 25 – 4 years 8 months (he was sentenced to a further 16 months consecutively for possession with intent to supply cannabis)
David Kelly, 30 – 7 years imprisonment
Michael Lewis, 29 – 6 years imprisonment
